The English Language Center’s (ELC) annual English Play Contest at Tunghai University (THU) was held on Tuesday, 23rd May, 2023. Finally, after four long years and the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak having passed, we were once again able to hold the 2023 English Play Contest. The event is organized by the ELC annually, for all Freshman English Non-English Major (FENM) students at THU. The event is divided into two parts for FENM students in both Tracks (Track A and Track B). This year the event was combined into one evening, however each Track still competed separately. In Track A there were three groups that entered, and Track B had 6 entries. Students spent the majority of the Spring Semester writing their original play scripts, practicing, rehearsing, and finally performing their plays in-class, and at the 2023 English Play Contest.
*The competition ended successfully and the participants took a group photo to commemorate the event.
The third place winner from Track A went to ‘Escape’, the second place to ‘Getting Back on Track’, and last but not least, in first place, the winning award went to ‘One Step from Home, One Step to the future’.
* The students performed perfectly and showed their team work and enjoyed themselves.
In Track B, three participation awards went to the plays titled, ‘Party Invitation’, ‘The Price of Kiss’, and ‘A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed’. In third place, ‘Good and Bad in a Thought’, in second place, ‘Titanic Pro: The Ghost Returns’, and last but not least, in first place, the winning award went to ‘Dragon Quest’.
* The raffle after the competition. Thanks to all the students who participated in the competition.
All the students did an amazing job in their performances, and kept the audience thoroughly entertained for the whole evening. It was wonderful to see our students showcase their talent and English language ability though their original plays that they created. All in all, it was a special night and lots of fun. The event would not have been possible without the wonderful ELC teachers who volunteered as judges, and our outstanding host of the night. A special thanks to all the student helpers and assistants who made this event so successful.
