In this era of technological transformation and rapid change, we are living in a time where AI intersects with global challenges—reshaping the boundaries of knowledge and redefining the nature of work. University education is evolving from traditional knowledge transmission to cultivating future citizens who can think critically, collaborate effectively, and innovate boldly.
Tunghai University places equal emphasis on teaching and research. To enhance the quality of faculty research and support academic work, the university has upgraded its research facilities and strengthened interactions with various industries. It is actively developing Asia’s largest “Smart Zero Zone,” integrating academia, industry, and research to allow students to participate in sustainable development practices during their learning journey.
Furthermore, Tunghai University collaborates with 5 Major Hospitals and technology institutions, including Taichung Veterans General Hospital and AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation), to develop AI in healthcare and aerospace research. These efforts highlight Tunghai University’s strong capabilities in teaching, research, and industry-academia collaboration.
Tunghai University's motto is Truth, Faith, and Deed. The University aims to research and develop knowledge and technologies that can facilitate social progress and cultivate innovative Tunghai students with expert knowledge and a broad vision. The vision of Tunghai University is to become an “innovative and outstanding university with a strong liberal arts foundation.” With changing international trends, rapid technological advancements, and the clash of diverse values in the internet era, coupled with the impact of the recent COVID-19 pandemic on life and education, the positioning and development of universities are undergoing significant changes. Building on our past achievements, we are moving towards the path of a university of the future.
The foundation of this transformation is based on the essence of a university of the future, which sets four main goals: “Promote Flipped Learning and Create a Student-Centered Learning Environment,” “Establish Flexible Systems and Cultivate a Positive and Progressive Organizational Culture,” “Integrate Technology to Implement Goal-Oriented Innovative Teaching,” and “Attract External Resources to Cultivate Sustainable Cross-Domain Talents.”
To empower THU students to be bold innovators, adept in both technologies and humanities, equipped with diverse cross-domain knowledge, citizens of the world, and servant leaders; and to empower THU teachers to practice educational ideals, social impact, sustainable development, and professional development, university planning and long-term development aims to build an efficient platform for academic values that also respects diversity and empowers students and teachers to realize their dreams. Our goal is to create an open-minded, communicative, and efficient academic and administrative team. To further fulfill our social responsibility and implement social development, THU has outlined concrete strategies and actions to promote university affairs in our mid-to-long-term university development project. Therefore, we have formulated four dimensions: Administrative Innovation, Cross-Domain Paradigm, Sustainable Development, and International Integration. Based on these dimensions, THU is developing new educational thinking, setting new educational policies, and planning mid-to-long-term university development strategies.
Through the concerted efforts of our faculty and students, Tunghai University achieved remarkable recognition in recent global rankings. In the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, Tunghai was ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. In the 2025 edition, the University further distinguished itself by securing first place in four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) categories among all public and private universities in Taiwan. In addition, at the 6th Global Views University Social Responsibility (USR) Awards, Tunghai University garnered four major awards, making it the most awarded private university in Taiwan.
These achievements reflect Tunghai’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, social responsibility, and sustainable development.
