Introduction

The College of Engineering at Tunghai University was established in 1960 and was reorganized in 2007 to align with the university’s strategic development. The College currently comprises five departments—Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information, Environmental Science and Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. In addition, the College includes three master’s degree programs: Digital Innovation, Semiconductor Engineering, and Engineering Management.
Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering focuses on advanced materials, biochemistry, and chemical process systems.
Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information specializes in systems engineering, intelligent systems, and enterprise management.
Environmental Science and Engineering advances research and education in environmental ecology, conservation, pollution prevention, toxicology, environmental chemistry, and environmental planning and management.
Computer Science emphasizes software engineering, computer networking, and embedded systems.
Electrical Engineering concentrates on wireless communication, semiconductor design, and electronic materials.
The College of Engineering at Tunghai University is highly active in international engagement. Its students come from countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. It is also common for the College’s faculty and students to participate in exchange programs and conduct research or study at leading universities worldwide. Each department has established various dual-degree programs with international partner institutions, providing students with diverse global learning opportunities.
The Department of Computer Science offers an all-English undergraduate program, attracting students from around the world to study at Tunghai. The College also works closely with the university’s International College. After completing one year in the Interdisciplinary Degree Program, high school graduates may transfer into any department within the College of Engineering to pursue a bachelor’s degree in their chosen engineering field.
The College of Engineering at Tunghai University has achieved outstanding research performance. One out of every ten faculty members is listed among the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists. In 2023, the College was ranked sixth in Taiwan (tied) in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for Engineering. Additionally, Tunghai University was ranked the top private university in Taiwan without a medical school in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. These accomplishments highlight the strong research capacity and achievements of the College.
