Tunghai University-News--“Sustainability in Science and Engineering” Program Launched in International College
Sustainability is regarded as a multi-dimensional balance which, with economic growth as the support, stimulates industries to align with circular economy. It is not only practical, but also innovative. It represents the philosophy of design for prevention to take the needs of production profit, environmental justice, and social balance into account. In Tunghai, the Sustainability in Science and Engineering (SSE) program is designed to cultivate students’ skills from all and various perspectives.
Tunghai University is a school focusing on Green Liberal Arts. “Green” indicates an attitude towards the environment, aiming to constantly learn from multidisciplinary approaches, and emphasizing on the developments of sustainable environment, economy, and society. On the other hand, “Liberal Arts” promotes the study of humanities. As in Chinese, the characters representing “ample” and “grace” together depict the purpose of the academic focus on Liberal Arts—to learn in width and depth with a sense of grace.
Based on the belief in Green Liberal Arts, Tunghai University has designed the SSE program dedicated to environmental sustainability mindset and future talents training. The International College currently offers two programs, namely International Business Administration and Sustainability in Science and Engineering, alongside a common set of Global Leadership Honor program. All programs are implemented in an entirely English learning environment.

It is anticipated that through trainings from the SSE program students will develop strong analytical skills and capabilities to take on responsibilities. They will enter corporates, research organizations, and government agencies with the competencies of solving challenges their generation faces, creating opportunities, and eventually leading to a vision for an ideal future world.

- Cultivates future leaders with a global environmental vision and, by implementing the English language focus, stimulates students to absorb new knowledge and techniques from a global perspective, enhancing observation and problem-solving skills.
- Centers on basic mathematics, science, chemistry, business knowledge as well as engineering ability, training students to gain applicable skills of business managerial levels and fundamental knowledge of sustainability research.
- Attends to critical sustainability issues such as climate, energy resource, environmental safety and health, sustainable design, sustainable urbanization, and sustainable governing, so as to become one of the innovators and pioneers to advocate progress and change.
