Tunghai University and the Embassy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Taiwan signed the MOU
to promote the International Elite Cultivation Program(IECP)
Ambassador Andrea Bowman remarked that the quality of Taiwan’s higher education has for a long time been recognized by Vincentian students. The MOU originated from a fundraising activity initiated by the Tunghai University New Taipei City Alumni Association in April 2021 for damages caused by the volcano eruption in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Touched by the warm-hearted minds of these students having been educated by Tunghai University, the Embassy has shown full support to this collaboration. The MOU will strengthen the Vincentian students’ understanding of Taiwanese education and culture and enhance interests in learning the Chinese language.
Former Ambassador Elizabeth Chu in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, also a distinguished alumnus of Tunghai University, remembered that she was impressed with the marvelous landscape across the country’s 32 islands and admired its people for their kindness during her residence there. Back to the campus today, she recalled the memories of the past 45 years ago and wished to share the beauty of Tunghai University with future outstanding Vincentian students to realize the study abroad plan through the IECP.
Department of Business Administration Alumni Association Chairman Song ping Chen and General Counselor Hung-Yi Tsai enthusiastically welcomed students from St. Vincent to study in Tunghai University and emphasized that the Alumni Association would provide support during their study in Taiwan.
Professor Min-Hsun Liao, Director of the Chinese Language Center, introduced its professional teaching team of the Chinese language. Besides effectively enhancing the student’s Chinese proficiency, the Center also arranged diverse activities to deepen the student’s understanding of the rich culture in Taiwan. Furthermore, its intensive course serves to raise the student’s level to TOCFL A2 level within one semester.
The ceremony was concluded by Professor Chen-Jui Huang, Deputy Chief of the Office of International Relations. He highlighted that the implementation of the IECP will encourage more outstanding students to be officially recommended by St. Vincent and the Grenadines to pursue degrees in Tunghai University. This will increase the number of global students from the Caribbean region, making the university’s international campus more diverse. This collaboration also serves to integrate networks and resources supported by the alumni from all aspects to continue to deepen the close cooperation between Tunghai University and St. Vincent and the Grenadines across various fields in the future.
