Professor Sun graduated from Tunghai University in 1966 with a BA degree. She is a Distinguished Honorary Chair Professor of College of Arts of Tunghai University, an Academician of Academia Sinica, a lifelong Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Chair Professor of Yale University. An internationally well-known sinologist, Sun’s research field spans classical Chinese literature, comparative poetics, literary criticism, and gender studies. She has published dozens of Chinese and English papers, over 100 essays, and books in Chinese and in English. Her father, Professor Paul Sun, taught in the Law School of Peking University before the family moved to Taiwan in 1946. In 1950, he was framed by the "white terror" and put in prison for ten years. This period of white terror has a profound influence on the Sun father and daughter. However, the Sun family has lived through the darkness of life and shined in their respective fields of academic achievements.
