The President of Polish Academy of Sciences, President Jerzy Duszynski, and its Chief International Officer, Dr. Anna Plater-Zyberk together with Mr. Jia-Hao Yang, staff member from the Department of European Affair Central and East European Affairs Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Tunghai University in the hope of promoting the international academic exchange between Taiwan and Poland by raising the internationalization of both universities and promoting faculty and student global mobility.

This discussion was hosted by Mr. Li-Chih Wang, Vice President of THU, together with other faculty members including Dr. Ding Ya Yang, Dean of College of Science; Dr. Annie Y. Tsai, Chief International Officer of THU; Dr. Wei Ting Zhao and Dr. Yi Jun Yan, Professors of the Department of Life Science of THU. During the discussion, President Duszynski especially mentioned that Polish Academy of Sciences is a top research institute in Europe, where many research thesis are published every year. It’s also the research institute that has the most subsidized research programs among all universities in Poland. In the coming years the, Polish Academy of Sciences is hoping to raise their campus’s internationalization, and thus, seeking for opportunities to build an exchange and cooperaton relationship with Tunghai University.
The Polish Academy of Sciences is founded in 1952 with a total of five departments: humanities and social sciences, biological and agricultural science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and earth science, engineering science; and medicine. It is a top national research institute that has 79 research units including graduate institutes, research centers, and research stations. There are also branch offices all over Poland and administrative offices and research centers in many other cities in Europe.

After the meeting, President Jerzy Duszynski and Dr. Plater-Zyberk visited the research room of THU Life Science Department and showed high expectation in promoting cooperation between the two universities. He also wished that in the future they can invite teachers and students from THU to attend the academic seminar hosted by the Polish Academy of Sciences and other European
universities in raising more outstanding people.
