A culture tour to Qingjing Farm designed for the summer session of Chinese Language Center (CLC) students was held on July 20, 2019. Themed “Out of the Classroom, Into Real Life”, the tour was led by two Chinese Language teachers, Ms. Hui-Juan Zhu and Ms. Bi-Hui Lin.
The tour is a part of the diversified course design in Chinese Language learning. By touring the popular scenic location, students from different countries not only got a chance to appreciate the beauty of natural scenery in Taiwan, but were also made able to utilize what they had learned in the language class into real life settings.
During the tour, students walked on the Qingjing Skywalk to enjoy magnificent green mountain and blue sky views. Students also visited the snack market where they communicated with shop keepers using Chinese language learned in the classrooms. With sufficient language skills, students successfully tasted aboriginal food, indigenous fruit and various Taiwanese street food and snacks.
On the way back from Qingjing Farm, the group visited Goang Xing Paper Mill at Puli. After receiving an introduction on the culture and art craft of paper, the students made paper fans with chosen patterns through stone rubbings. Each student then brought home a personalized handmade paper fan with a unique pattern. Besides having fun, students were able to utilize and verify the Chinese language they had learned under different real-life circumstances. The Tunghai Chinese Language Center enriches the language learning experience through deep and solid bonds with Taiwanese culture.
