Overseas Students Graduation Ceremony

On Saturday June 1st of 2019, the graduation ceremony organized by the International Student Affairs from the Office of International Relations for the overseas students was held at the Luce Chapel. Students from all around the world, totaling 113 students from 7 different countries, had attended the ceremony, and the graduates’ parents had also travelled from afar to Tunghai University to witness this remarkable event.

Mr. Chen-Jui Huang, assistant chief of the Office of International Relations,gave the an opening speech, He said, ”At the first stage, you left your homeland and came to Taiwan to experience the multicultural living style; at the second stage, you came to the academic world to explore your proficiency and interest; at the third stage, you enjoyed your splendid college life in Tunghai’s beautiful campus, and I believe that your luggage is now full of rich and beautiful memories. Thank you, and , congratulations for graduating!! I wish you all well for your next journey, Bon voyage!!”Mr.Huang used different languages to congratulate the students. Chaplain David Clotfelter then led a prayer and gave a speech of encouragement and blessing to all graduates. The Office of International Relations also invited Dr. Stano Kong, Dean of the College of Arts; Dr. Ding Ya Yang, Dean of the College of Science; Dr. I-Kuan Yang, Dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Shu-Hsing Li, Dean of the College of Management; Dr. Wen-Den Chen, Dean of the College of Social Science; Dr. Wen-Dee Chiang, Dean of the College of Agriculture; and Dr. James Sims, International Business Program Director of International College to attend the ceremony and help students turn their tassels.

Graduate speeches were given by Ling-Wai Kwan from Hong Kong, Vyasamudri Sameer from India, and Kexin Luo from Shenyang, China. And it’s worth mentioning that Vyasamudri Sameer, who represented the international students, graduated from Tunghai University with a Chemistry PhD degree and is the first international doctoral graduate from Tunghai. And next, with Pei Zu Ngo, Louis Leonardo, Hua Kang Chen, and Ma Sai leading and Yunyi Zheng playing the guitar, all graduates together sang a graduation song “Old Boy”to their families and teachers. Lastly, Chaplain Clotfelter led everyone with a prayer of blessing, giving a perfect ending to this year’s overseas student graduation ceremony.
