Senior Operation Director Wendall Chang of the SGS Academy Taiwan (SGS Taiwan) and Chairman Yilang Tsai of the Cloud Security Alliance Taiwan (CSA Taiwan) together granted the CSA STAR certificate to Tunghai University on March 15, 2017, accepted by President Mao-Jiun Wang.
President Wang acknowledged the commitment and efforts made to construct and maintain the institution’s informatics service by the team led by Director CT Yang of the Tunghai Computer Center. Receiving the CSA STAR demonstrates how much Tunghai value its information security, especially in securing the development of a smart campus in the future. Tunghai has been ISO 27001 certificated since 2007. SGS Taiwan Director Wendall Chang said that SGS was honored to be the counseling organization for Tunghai’s IT security performance throughout its way from ISO 27001 to CSA STAR certification.
According to CSA Taiwan Chairman Tsai, currently there are only seven organizations in Taiwan with the CSA STAR certification, including three telecommunication companies, Acer Computer, and research organizations. Tunghai is the first university to receive this international acknowledgement worldwide, showing the effort and devotion put into IT security by Tunghai.
Since 2013, the Computer Center built the Bo-Ya Cloud Platform, providing educational software resources as well as information resources for all teachers and students. To ensure the quality of security for this cloud service, Tunghai started collaborating with industry partners in 2015. Through the help of consultants and commitment from the entire faculty, Tunghai passed the extended ISO 27001 certification. Originally Tunghai was certified in the areas of Engine Room Operation, Internet Management, Mailing and Official Website Server Management, and Identity Authentication Server Management. In July, 2016, the certificate was extended to Bo-Ya Cloud- tDrive Storage Cloud and 3D VACS Software Cloud. In September of the same year, Tunghai’s Bo-Ya Cloud officially received the CSA STAR certificate, becoming the first university worldwide to receive this honor.
The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) is the world’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to defining and raising awareness of best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment. Established in 2008, in response to concerns about the information security of cloud service from corporations and users internationally, the organization created the Cloud Control Matrix (CCM) to strengthen the practices of cloud security, including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. The CSA STAR certification follows the ISO 17021, ISO 19011, and ISO 27006 standards.
