The Ministry of Education has been promoting the Teaching Excellence Program for twelve years. On March 11, 2017, thirteen universities that have been receiving the funding collectively held the “Genesis of Education: Cross-Generational Education Expo” in the National Science Museum in Taichung. Through the static exhibition, dynamic achievement showcase, and higher education forums, the expo presented diverse ways of education and results. The purpose was to introduce the results of the Teaching Excellence Program to the general public.
Tunghai’s Teaching Excellence Program started from a student-centric mindset that aimed to cultivate talents with full humanity knowledge. At its very start, it emphasized establishments of policies, integrating resources of the institution to build a fully digitalized campus. The second phase, “from Bo-Ya to humanity,” aligned with Tunghai’s educational characteristics and fundamentals in its Bo-Ya education to improve students’ learning quality and effectiveness. The third phase took green campus as its main goal. Besides keeping the previous spirits, it encouraged students to put more focus on professional skills, to acquire sustainability mindset, to learn in a cross-disciplinary way, to practice critical thinking, and to broaden international perspectives. Most importantly, the program cultivated students to be industry-ready, inspired them to explore new areas of expertise, and trained them to gain lifelong competitive advantages.
With the support of Tunghai’s Teaching Excellence Program, the operation of administrative and educational units, and the collaboration between teachers and students, Tunghai University will be able to cultivate more outstanding talents and pass along the achievements to future Tunghai-ers. We hope that all faculty and students will continue to devote themselves into making the higher education environment ever better.
