On December 30, 2016, Tunghai University held a presentation event where students from Tunghai University and Tunghai High School released research findings of three topics related to veteran care-taking. Tunghai University Vice President Chia-Chung Chan, Director of Student Affairs Xiao-Bai Lee of Tunghai high school, Director Cheng Wang of the Veteran Association Changhua (VAC), as well as teachers, students, and staffs attended the event. Teachers and students of Tunghai prepared scarves for the veterans, showing love and care at the end of the year.
Tunghai has a long-term collaboration with VAC in promoting Elderly Care Program. In September of 2016, students of Tunghai high school were invited to join the program. The students visited VAC from September to December, learning to observe problems, communicate, and organize proposals. While learning from practicing, they also help VAC to consider issues from different perspectives.

The event served as part of the “Problem-Solving and Decision-Making” course of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program of the College of Management. There are three main subjects for the presentation: landscape architecture, promotion design, and case studies. Landscape architecture and interior design focused on the special arrangements and art displays of VAC, using the soothing environmental elements to help with the veterans’ physical and mental developments. Promotion design included a brochure and introductory pamphlet. It aimed to promote the service spirits of VAC and to attract elderly people to reside in VAC, including its medical, caring, foods, and living services. Case studies collected veterans’ feedbacks to VAC services and environments through surveys. This will be a basis for providing suggestions to VAC to improve its overall service.

According to Vice President Chan, elderly care is one of the most important issues of the contemporary society. Tunghai University and High School work together on VAC’s Elderly Care Program to provide opportunities for students to learn from diverse resources. He hopes that Tunghai will deepen the education and communication with elderly care to make more contribution to the society.
