2016 Indonesia-Taiwan Higher Education Forum was a success

To enhance globalization of the domestic higher education and expand collaboration and exchange with outstanding Indonesian higher education organizations, Liang-Gee Chen, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, and Min-Ling Yang, General Director of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, Ministry of Education led the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan, Elite Study In Taiwan Program Office of the Ministry of Education, and 45 representatives from 22 Taiwanese Universities attended the 2016 Indonesia-Taiwan Higher Education Forum on October 20 in Bandung, Indonesia.
The 2016 Indonesia-Taiwan Higher Education Forum is supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Technology and Higher Education, Bandung State Polytech University, and Indonesia Institute of Arts. From the Taiwanese side, Tunghai University, Ikatan Citra Alumni Taiwan se-Indonesia (ICATI), and Taiwan Education Center Indonesia all contributed into the event. There were 50 participating Indonesian colleges and universities, making up over 120 participants in total and marking one of the largest gatherings in the higher education field for both countries.
Topics of the forum include center of excellence in higher education, industry and university linkage, and vocational higher education. 19 specialists, university presidents, vice presidents, R&D heads, and international affairs directors shared their experiences and suggestions for collaboration regarding the three topics. Li-Chih Wang, Director of the Office of Research and Development of Tunghai University was invited to deliver a speech on “Integrating University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education with Industry.” He talked about Tunghai’s efforts and promotion of university-industry collaboration as well as innovative cultivation method for industry mini-alliances, which were highly praised by the audience. After the speech, many schools expressed their willingness to collaborate on such projects.
Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang spoke on behalf of the Taiwan delegation, thanking speakers from both countries who shared generously. He hoped that through the exchange between both countries in theories and practices of higher education, more space and opportunities of collaboration and improvement would be created. A broader future should be pioneered for the education for the younger generation.
On the second day of the event, participants toured the Bandung Institute of Technolgy. Founded in 1920, Bandung Institute of Technology is the oldest and the most prestigious polytech university in Indonesia. Thanks to the heated conversations, more opportunities to integrate outstanding academic education resources and co-create high quality education are expected.
Starting September 2016, Tunghai University has been responsible for the operation of the Taiwan Education Center Indonesia, as appointed by the Ministry of Education. The 2016 Indonesia Taiwan Higher Education Fair in Jarkata and Medan during October 23 to 25 following the Forum was organized. 130 representatives from 49 Taiwanese universities participated in the fair, expecting to promote Taiwan’s quality higher education resources to thousands of Indonesian students. The fair aimed to attract more Indonesians to study in Taiwan, after which returning to Indonesia as bridges for collaboration and relationships in various professional fields for Taiwan and Indonesia.
