The 2016 Tunghai Innovator Expo and Open Campus was held on June 5th. Carrying on the vision of Tunghai’s establishing president, Beauson Tseng, who once said, “Innovation is our motto,” Tunghai University is the first in Taiwan to organize an Innovator Expo event. By innovative collaboration of cross-department education and research, academia-industry cooperation, and multi-disciplinary integration, Tunghai is actively seeking solutions to the human society and environment, leading all to a brighter future.
The event began first with the performance of the wind orchestra of the Department of Music of Tungahi, followed by President Mao-Jiun Wang, Chairman Chi-Hong Tseng, and the founder of Rose House, Teng-Hui Huang, lighting up the ceremonial light together. Tunghai also invited Mr. Jung-Ya Hsieh, the receiver of the Taiwan Presidential Innovation Award and the founder of Gixia Group, to deliver a speech on the event. Starting from his personal experience, Mr. Hsieh shared his definition of “innovators,” spicing up the event with more thoughts and inspirations.
The theme of the 2016 Innovator Expo is “We Live, We Care!” Exhibitions covered topics of creative living, social culture, biological environment, product and service innovation, and so on. Nearly a hundred teams of students and industry workers displayed their wide variety of products and creations by 2D and 3D designs, interactive games, and experimental digital music shows, which altogether made up an exciting visual and audio experience.
Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang stated that Tunghai not only valued general and professional education, but also regard character and life education highly. Tunghai had conducted innovative ways of cultivating young talents, which many other schools followed suit. President Wang also pointed out that Tunghai as a comprehensive university offers curriculums in all major professional domains such as science and technology, humanities and social studies, arts, management, and more. This provides Tunghai with advantages to develop cross-disciplinary innovation. The Innovator Expo event demonstrated Tunghai’s promise to educate young talents within the innovative system as well as Tunghai’s environment to attain creative mindsets, productive abilities, and entrepreneurial spirits. The theme “We Live, We Care!” especially emphasized care of life. It promoted a better interactive user experience through creative design, increasing convenience and comfort while showing care to the users. President Wang hoped that these brilliant ideas developed by the students may be further incubated with the assistance of the school to become the foundations of their own start-ups.
In addition to the Innovator Expo, the 2016 Open Campus served as a section to showcase achievements and characteristics of each department and college. The academic fair included the introduction of curriculums, career consultancy, department tours, and research achievements. A creative market was run to demonstrate the beauty of Tunghai’s liberal arts, college spirits, and community inspiration.
The main purpose of the Tungahi Innovator Expo and Open Campus is to integrate resources and talents, turning university energy into the new generation’s aspiration of innovation. Ultimately, it aims to become an integrative platform that collects and organized social resources to provide for college education, and a value-sharing platform that continues to care for the sustainability and development of Earth and the society.
