In appreciation of the quality education provided by Tunghai, 44 alumni from the 20th class of the Department of Economics (DoE), who now have established well-off careers, donated one million NT dollars to the Department. The donation was for the DoE to provide more and better resources to its current students. The donation ceremony was held on April 21st, 2016.
Tunghai president Dr. Mao-Jiun Wang and the Dean of the College of Social Sciences Prof. Jeng Liu represented the school to receive the donation. Twelve representative alumni as well as DoE Chairperson Prof. Huei-Ling Hou and many professors attended. Besides appreciating the contribution of the alumni, the DoE established the Tunghai Economics Outstanding Program with the donation. The purpose is to re-build the special relationships between upper- and under-classmates as well as teachers and students. On one hand, it aims to aspire and engage students into their studies; on the other hand, it gives positive feedback to teachers’ teaching. It is to advance Tunghai Economics to become one of the best departments nationally.
The alumni also shared their personal experiences and insights regarding future career paths for current students. Mr. Jin-Chuang Liu suggested newly graduates who are starting their careers to look for opportunities in China. He took a well-known app in China for example – Eleme (literally translated from Chinese “Hungry Yet?”) This meal-ordering app integrates all restaurants in one’s living area was developed by a company of young people at an average age of 24. With the advantage of being young and innovative, the company achieved a performance of skyrocketing over ten times since its foundation in 2009. It shows how fast the economy in China rises and how rapidly the market expands. Due to the speedy growing economy, the need for work force and talents becomes hefty. Therefore, the employment market in China is an opportunity worthy to seize.
