Tunghai University, a long-time advocate for AI development, has partnered with three major architectural firms, focusing on the digital transformation of the architectural industry and education. They have established the "Future Office: Architectural Artificial Intelligence Development Alliance," aiming to elevate the architectural industry's processes and design competitiveness by integrating AI technology. Furthermore, Tunghai University is deepening AI education for its students by signing a new AI project agreement with DDS Institute of Tunghai Study (DDS), promoting comprehensive AI educational programs throughout the entire university.
Tunghai University signs a new AI project with the DDS to deepen AI education among students, preparing to launch comprehensive AI educational courses throughout the university.
On the 14th of November 2023, Tunghai University inaugurated the "Future Office: Architectural Artificial Intelligence Development Alliance." Professor Lo Wen-Tsung, director of Tunghai's Artificial Intelligence Center, emphasized that the purpose of establishing the Future Office is to collaborate with three major architectural firms in utilizing AI technology to construct and implement a digital transformation focused on data-driven, AI-enabled, and intelligent design objectives. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of architectural industry processes and the core creativity of architectural design in response to industry demands. Additionally, Tunghai University has initiated a comprehensive AI program in collaboration with the DDS to reinforce AI knowledge among students throughout various courses. Notable attendees at the inauguration included President Chang Kuo-En of Tunghai University, Chairman Cheng Ching-Ho of the DDS, Vice President Liu Jeng, Architect Kung Rui-Qi from Keywow Architecture, Architect Chang Ching-Hwa from Bio-architecture Formosanae, Architect Yu Hsiao-Lan from YSL Architects & Associates, CEO Lin Wei-Hsiu from UB Co., Ltd., Director Yang Ding-Yah from the Academic Affairs, Director Yang Chao-Tung from the Office of Library and Information Services, Director Huang Chao-Hsi from the Office of Public Affairs and Alumni Service, Dean Huang Chin-Yin from the College of Engineering, Director Lo Wen-Tsung of Tunghai's Artificial Intelligence Center, Director Chang Yun-Tsung of the DDS, Chairman Tseng Wei from the Department of Architecture, and Professor Chiu Hao-Hsiu from the Architecture Department, among others.
President Chang Kuo-En of Tunghai University expressed that AI is a prevailing trend of the era, visible across various industries. Therefore, the university has positioned itself with three educational focuses: digitalization, interdisciplinary studies, and liberal arts education. Through this recent AI project agreement, the university aims to further emphasize AI as a distinctive characteristic of Tunghai's educational offerings. Currently, efforts are underway to establish comprehensive AI courses across the university. President Chang emphasized that learning AI isn't solely about digital learning; interdisciplinary studies and the cultivation of soft skills are equally important. The establishment of the Future Office, as a collaboration between Tunghai and architectural firms, exemplifies this, connecting AI with architecture and promoting collaboration among experts in various fields. This partnership is expected to cultivate innovative talents for the future of the architectural industry.
As AI emerges as a prevailing trend of the era, Tunghai University has positioned itself with three educational focuses: digitalization, interdisciplinary studies, and liberal arts education. The recent AI project agreement further strengthens AI as a distinctive characteristic of the university.
As the driving force behind this AI project agreement, Chairman Cheng Ching-Ho of the DDS highlighted that AI has swept across the globe, causing significant transformations worldwide. He stated that for university students, learning AI isn't merely a matter of "substantial assistance" but rather a necessity; failure to learn AI might lead to obsolescence. He further emphasized that learning AI doesn't mean everyone has to become an expert in computer science. Instead, it's about integrating AI into one's field of study and even engaging in interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. Chairman Cheng underscored that in this project, the so-called "AI Tunghai" focuses on a development strategy centered around AI, intending for AI to be integrated into every department's curriculum, allowing students, regardless of their major, to engage with AI theory and applications. This comprehensive implementation of AI education at Tunghai aims to root AI within students internally and connect it externally to industries, effectively integrating theory with practical applications.

Professor Chiu Hao-Hsiu from Tunghai University's Architecture Department pointed out that the establishment of the Future Office marks a significant stride for the architectural industry. By establishing AI architectural information model platform systems and adopting generative processes, it accelerates the integration of digital to intelligent processes in professional architectural fields. This move aims to meet the future trends of more efficient, sustainable, innovative, and resilient design in living environments. Professor Chiu highlighted that through the collaborative synergy between university research and teaching capabilities, the initiative aims to foster innovative talents for the future architectural industry. The field of architectural education is expected to undergo paradigm shifts in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution's digital twin, intelligent innovation, and sustainable environmental era. Long-term goals, strategic blueprints, and action plans are being formulated accordingly.
