ChatGPT AI has inspired a wave of innovation and creativity among universities. The "2023 Data-Driven Innovation Application Competition" attracted top information talents from all over Taiwan. A total of 170 teams registered for the competition, with only 28 teams made it to the finals. A student team led by Professor Kai-Chih Pai of the College of Engineering at Tunghai University won the championship with their project "Carbon Collection at the Most Sensitive Place Within," earning a grand prize of 300,00NTD. The project calculates carbon consumption with big data, achieving carbon reduction goals.

The "2023 Data-Driven Innovation Application Competition - Finals and Award Ceremony" took place on July 8th, encouraging teams to utilize the innovative METIS PaaS platform and Azure OpenAI for their project designs. The competition marked the first nationwide competition in Taiwan where ChatGPT was openly used for AI creation. Tzu-Jen Yeh, the President of DATA SYSTEMS CONSULTING CO., LTD., said that many of the finalist teams were highly appraised by the industry. Through collaboration with Tunghai University, the company sponsored the competition to cultivate talents and achieve a win-win situation for companies and for students.
As one of the organizers of the event, Tunghai University Department of Software Engineering Chair, Jung-Sing Jwo, said that this competition was highly competitive, with over 65% of the finalist teams using ChatGPT for their designs. The team "The Sword in the Stone," led by Chao-Hsi Huang, Director of Tunghai University Office of Public Affairs, and Professor Cheng-Hsiung Lee from the Digital Innovation Master Program, received an Honorable Mention for their work. The team developed a media literacy scale, combining with ChatGPT and Bing, to create a system capable of detecting fake news. This can potentially serve as a digital teaching case for media literacy in the future.

Jerry Chen, General Manager of Microsoft Taiwan, a sponsor of the event, stated that this competition provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity. Recognizing the potentials of young students, Chen hopes this competition continues to allow students root themselves in the data industry. Jang-Hwa Leu, Director General of the Administration for Digital Industries, Ministry of Digital Affairs , stated that with the rise of ChatGPT, the competition not only encourages students to use AI technology in their designs but also guides them into the era of digital transformation. Through the participation, young students learn and flourish.
Tzu-Jen Yeh, President of DATA SYSTEMS CONSULTING, another sponsor of the competition, emphasized that data will become the driving force for enterprises and play a crucial role in various aspects. He affirmed that through collaboration with Tunghai University, this competition enhances talent cultivation and industry integration capabilities. Yeh hopes to continue organizing the competition annually, nurturing more AI-minded professionals for the industry.
