Spring Gala has been a tradition for overseas Chinese students in Taiwan. This year, Tunghai University hosted the “Central Taiwan Overseas Chinese Student Spring Gala” on campus, inviting over 300 overseas Chinese students and counselors from over 29 universities and colleges in the region.
President of Tunghai University, Dr. Mao-Jiun Wang expressed his warm welcome to all participants and thanked the Overseas Community Affairs Council, the Ministry of Education and the National Immigration Agency for supporting the event. Dr. Wang mentioned that Tunghai University has a long history of receiving overseas Chinese students and international students who are growing into a significant portion of the university’s student portfolio. He wished for an enjoyable day for all participants in the beautiful campus of Tunghai.

Chief Secretary from Overseas Community Affairs Council Mr. Liang-Ming Chang indicated that the Taiwan government encourages ambitious overseas Chinese students to study and to enter job market in Taiwan. Education Counselor from Ministry of Education Mr. Yuri Yao-Tsung Chih and Director of National Immigration Agency in Taichung Mr. Yu-Jen Chou joined the event and provided gifts for the raffle draw section.
The main theme of this year is “Memories of Taiwan”. Traditional artifacts and snacks including cotton candies, sugarcoated haws on a stick, dragon’s beard candy, dough figurine sculpture and many children’s folklore and folkgames were presented to reconstruct an ancient street view of Taiwan. Participating overseas Chinese students coming from all parts of the world thus gained the opportunity to experience the traditional cultures of Taiwan. The sweet and festive memories will be with them when they return to their home countries.
