Tunghai Hosts 2019 Asia Annual Conference of International Council for Higher Education

The 2019 Asia Annual Conference of International Council for Higher Education (ICHE) was held in Tunghai University on July 11-12 with the theme “Justice through Higher Education”. Educators from USA, Taiwan, Philippines, South Korea, Nepal, North Korea, and Kyrgyz attended the meeting. Besides Tunghai President Prof. Mao-Jiun Wang, Dean of International Relations Dr. Annie Y. Tsai, special guests Board-Chair of Asian School of Development & Crosscultural Studies Mr. Tae Yun Hwang and Chaplain of Azusa Pacific University Mr. Kevin Wayne Mannoia engaged in discussions on various topics with all attending specialists.

The 2019 Asia Annual Conference of International Council for Higher Education
The conference dug into the topic of the issues and challenges for higher education faculties in the Asia region. Aspects of the issues were examined and solutions answering to the challenges and impacts on the future of international education were put forward based on Christian perspective.
With his welcome message, President Mao-Jiun Wang highlighted the two new study programs on “Cloud Technology” and “New Economy” which Tunghai University cooperates with Amazon AWS and with Taiwan AI Academy to promote cross-disciplinary studies. Dean Annie Tsai further elaborated the uniqueness of Tunghai being a higher education institution rooted on Christianity. Both indicated the importance of the academic exchanges and interactions between Asia and other international regions on higher education.

The International Council for Higher Education (ICHE) was established in 1997 in Switzerland by educators concerned about issues facing higher education across the world. Since its founding, ICHE has addressed educational concerns by networking and partnering with educators, agencies, and institutions worldwide. Through conferences, educators around the world have been able to share experiences and make cooperative contributions to the international higher education.
