Tunghai University (THU) and the Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TVGH), in cooperation with Chung-Chang Veterans’ Home and Changhua Veterans’ Home signed Memorandum of Understanding to initiate a long-term collaboration in the incubation of advanced-level caretaking expertise for senior citizens, the integration of senior citizen healthcare services, and bringing attention to the importance of caretaking in the many Veterans’ Homes in Taiwan. THU and TVGH will jointly provide professional trainings for the setup of incubation program for advanced-level caretakers. The trainees will be provided with internship opportunities in the TVGH and the Veterans’ Homes in order to obtain hands-on experience in the caretaking of silver generation.
Dr. WHH Sheu, Head of the Taichung Veterans General Hospital, and Dr. Mao-Jiun J. Wang, President of Tunghai University, led their respective teams, together with representatives from Chung-Chang Veterans’ Home and Changhua Veterans’ Home Mr. Cheng Wang and Mr. Shu-Hsiang Yang attended the signing ceremony. The strong combined team showed a corresponding strong commitment from all parties involved in the project. It is expected that the collaboration will bring extended cooperation between the university and the prestigious hospital to elevate the quality of medical and healthcare services for the senior citizens as well as to enhance the education and research of silver generation medical science in Taiwan.
Focuses of endeavor in this collaboration project include 1. expansion of the healthcare service team to include cross-disciplinary experts to be able to provide comprehensive caretaking for the senior; 2. incubation of doctors and care-takers of special expertise targeting silver generation patients; 3. creation of a service network combining the medical treatment facility in the hospital and the rehabilitation facilities in the veterans’ homes; and 4. enhancement of academic research related to medical care of the senior so as to provide policy advices with empirical basis.
