During the summer of 2018, Chairman Ted C. Yang and President Mao-Jiun Wang of Tunghai University visited the alumni in the United States and shared their educational mission of actively making Tunghai an innovative and remarkable university. The organization of the meeting in California was initiated by Teddy Anliang Chien, THU alumnus from the Department of Economics, about six months ago. After several video conferences, the Alumni Associations in Northern and Sothern California, the Chairman and the President finally met in Las Vegas on July 7, 2018.

President Wang gave a presentation on the latest development at Tunghai University and future plans, including two-year, five-year, and ten-year development plans. The future short-term and long-term plans will focus specifically on the concepts of “one school, two languages, three types of learning and four pillars of sustainability.” Through the rich content of the PowerPoint presentation, everyone in the audience learned about the progress and improvements in the development of their Alma Mater. One of the recent developments of THU is the construction project of the new building for student activities, which has recently been approved by the THU board of trustees. President Wang hoped that the alumni could give to the implementation of the big construction project. After the meeting, President Wang and Chairman Yang interacted with alumni and had a lively discussion about various aspects related to the development of THU. Participating alumni were all impressed by the high degree of cooperation between the university administration and the board of trustees.

In addition to the alumni from Southern and Northern California, other THU alumni from the East Coast of the United States also participated in the gathering. The alumni gathered together like in a family reunion—greeting and hugging one another warmly. Many group photos were taken to capture the precious moment and to leave warm memories for these alumni of Tunghai University overseas. They experienced once again a sense of community away from home and looked forward to their next big reunion in the near future.
