The result of 2018 Biomimicry Global Design Challenge was announced by The Biomimicry Institute. The two teams from Master of Architectural Design of Architecture Department (M.Arch.AAD), have received the great achievement with the instruction from Dr. Chiu, Kuo-Wei. The first team, consists of Lin, Jian-Hong and Wang, Chia-Xi is selected as the winner with their artwork “MIST GENERATION + PACE.” The other team, consists of Hsueh, Yim-Chen, Chung, Fu-Shan, and Chu, Huei, is selected as the honorable mention with the artwork “Opening.”
The winner team will head to the U.S.A to receive the cash award; in addition, they will be invited to join the Biomimicry Launchpad, a program about biomimetic start-ups to cultivate the innovative design for the future market. After the program, one of the eight teams will be selected to receive the $100,000 prize.
With the theme of “Climate Change,” hundreds of teams, including teams from world-famous universities, national research institutes, and innovative design companies from all the world, have participated in the competition. There are eight teams being selected as the winners and three teams as honorable mentions.
The eight winners are the representatives from the U.S.A., Netherland, Taiwan, Israel, and China. The topics of the teams are related to Alternative Energy, Cash Crops Farming, PM 2.5, Coastal Zones Ecology, Mosquito-Control, Urban Heat Island Effect, etc. The honorable mentions are based on the topics of Flood and Air Pollution.
Since 2015, Chiu, Kuo-Wei has endeavored to develop the innovative design instruction and established Regenerative Earth and Anthropocene Design Studio (R.E.A.D.) to research the design of sustainability for the future. Besides, he cooperated with Biomimicry Taiwan for the combination of new technology and the care about Humanities and Human Lives. These efforts have cultivated the students’ ability to stand on the stage of Biomimicry Global Design Challenge.
Master of Architectural Design of Architecture Department (M.Arch.AAD) is a bilingual international program; the purpose of the program is to cultivate the talents with prospective visions and creativity for the design and know-how combination. Application information: open for those who with Bachelor of Urban Design, Biomimicry, Earth System, Ecology, Life Science, Eco System, Environment Design, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering(related to Climate Change, Recycle Energy, Water Conservation, Sustainable Agriculture, Public Works, and Engineering Infrastructure), Landscape Architecture, and Urban Planning.
