2018 New Year Gala of Foreign Degree Students: Nations˙Heart˙Family

The Office of International Education and Programs (OIEP), Tunghai University organized the 2018 New Year Gala for Foreign Degree Students on January 6 in the Lilo Center in Taichung. Around 400 faculty members and foreign students participated in the gala and enjoyed the New Year atmosphere together.
Every year, hundreds of foreign students come to Tunghai for their studies and it has been a tradition of many years for Tunghai to organize a Chinese New Year gala for its foreign students. The theme of the 2018 New Year Gala was “Nations˙Heart˙Family.”
Performance of foreign students
The Dean of OIEP, Prof. Hong-Wei Yen, delivered his best wishes to all participants at the beginning of the gala. Several representatives of government departments, including the Secretary General of the Overseas Communities Affairs Council, Mr. Liang-Ming Chang, and the Inspector of National Immigration Agency, Ms. Fu-Hua Chen, also expressed their nest wishes to the foreign students.
The Inspector of National Immigration Agency, Ms. Fu-Hua Chen, stated that it’s a great opportunity to meet foreign students in the gala and see their performances, which show the multicultural atmosphere of Tunghai University. In addition, she mentioned the new location of the National Immigration Agency in Taichung and hoped that it would provide foreign students with more convenient services.

The Secretary General of Overseas Communities Affairs Council, Mr. Liang-Ming Chang, mentioned that he has been invited for years; he was always surprised by the performances and the spirit of the gala which reflects the efforts of the staff members and performers. The Overseas Communities Affairs Council endeavors to cultivate foreign students and will keep improving its policies to encourage foreign students to start their career in Taiwan.

The performances of the gala included pop-music dances and traditional folk dances, which became the highlights of the night. The Dean of OIEP and Tunghai faculty members also generously provided additional reward so that more students could have the opportunity to receive presents from the lucky draw.
At the end of the gala, Dean Yen thanked everybody for their participation and thanked the staff members for their hard work. Dean Yen hopes that everyone could cherish and continue this valuable relationship, which starts from Tunghai, and he wished everyone a warm and happy new year!
