EP Books held their first Book Fair in 2018 in Tunghai University, which has established the first department of Hospitality Management in central Taiwan. EP Book expects that the books can assist students and fioster their passion for learning. The book fair “Catering, Changing the Futurs” was held from January 4, 2018 to January 19, 2018 in the Library of Tunghai University. On the opening day, the founder and the president of Wowprime Corporation, Sheng-Yi Dai, the Vice President of Tunghai University, Li-Chih Wang, and Chief Librarian of the Library, Huang-Nan Huang all participated in the opening ceremony.
Catering has become a significant aspect of modern life and books in this field are the main specialty of EP Books. After the retirement of President Sheng-Yi Dai, he established EP Books to promote reading and he hopes that the book fairs can deliver his passion for catering to arouse the students’ interests.

Compared to other fields, it is easier for people to start their business with catering because of the lower venture capital. Therefore, EP Books collects technique books and special foreign languages books in catering from all over the world and selects the most unique 400 books to present in the book fair, including professional cooking book “Sauce, Tout sur les sauces de la cuisine francaise,” “Kitchen Essentials,” “À LA TABLE DES DESIGNERS,” and books about wine.
President Dai stated that “29 years ago, his family disagreed with his decision to start his career with catering business because the whole environment for it was bad and it was not a respected field of business at that time. In the beginning, Wowprime Corporation wanted to be progressive; thus, they expected every employee to keep improve themselves and challenge themselves. From 2013 to 2015, Wowprime was ranked as the most desirable business that students would like to enter after their graduation. Wowprime is proud of it.”
President Dai thought that the younger generation can start their business in the field of high-technology and catering. Once they have successful experiences, they can start other branches and also cultivate the ability to establish chain stores. Catering could change students’ futures, especially for those who have poor financial conditions. President Dai expects Tunghai students will make good use of the books and benefit from them and hopes that these books can help them have the same achievements as he did.
Vice President, Li-Chih Wang delivered the speech.
Tunghai University Vice President, Li-Chih Wang stated that Tunghai University emphasizes on the cultivation of Humanities. The middle-and long-term plans are to establish an innovative and distinguished university with a Liberal Arts basis, including Humanities and Technology. In other words, with the good cultural basis of Humanities, Arts, Aesthetics, etc., Tunghai can create innovation. The establishment of Wowprime Corporation is a model of innovation because it changes the Food culture in Taiwan and achieves cultural sustainability. The sVice President hopes that Tunghai University can keep cooperating with EP Book even after the book fair has ended and stated that knowledge should be put into practice.
The Chief Librarian Huang-Nan Huang said that he understands President Dai’s original intention of establishing the EP Books and he also found the problem of students’ reading coherence. He hopes that the book fair will arouse students’ attention and interests and get the inspiration by reading.

Ms. Kuei-I Lee, the Chair of Hospitality Department, stated that she is impressed by the topic of the book fair. She was confused about her own future when she was studying in Hospitality Department; however, she regained the confidence and believed that there would be better development of catering field when she saw the change of the whole environment created by President Dai. She said that even the most professional chefs should improve themselves by reading and this emphasizes the worth and importance of the books.

The Tunghai University Library has 60-year history and is the first open-access library in Taiwan. The Library provides students and faculty members with rich collections mainly for academic purposes and also for extracurricular purposes. In addition, it includes the hand-written drafts from Song Dynasty (in 1140). The collections of the Library are increasing with 20000 books per year and the mult-media items also increase annually. Although the Library is bulging with the collections, there are few books about catering field. The Book Fair could not only offer good materials for Hospitality Department but also provide students and faculty members, who are interested in Food culture, with different reading experiences to widen their horizon.
