From designing to marketing, students of Tunghai University successfully put their work into international recognition. This is a success story of our educational innovation.
Target is the second largest retail group in the United States. It is also one of the retailers that focus most on design innovation and channel management around the world. Target visited Tunghai’s internship partner Champ Home Corporate on April 24 to understand its collaboration with Tunghai. Champ Home was the major backstage planner who took Tunghai students’ creativity and landed it onto the production line to become a released product.
Since 2016, Champ Home has been providing internship opportunities for Tunghai students to participate in designing- and marketing-related endeavors of the company. Designed by students of the Department of Industrial Design, the product “Easter Basket” was evaluated as one of the 2017 seasonal top products in its category by the Target Sales Department. The product was on-shelf in Target stores around the United States in this February and generated purchases worth of millions of Taiwanese dollars. Recognizing the performance of Tunghai students, Target invited the students to participate in its 2018 product design. Besides the Easter Baskets, Target was also offering opportunities for other categories, providing a chance for our students to learn from the international market as well as strengthening Tunghai’s industrial collaboration.
Founded in 1902, the Target Group headquarter is located in Minnesota, US. It is the second largest retailer, following Walmart. Currently, it has 350,000 employees and almost two thousand stores. Target Sales visited Tunghai University and praised Tunghai’s friendly environment provided for students’ career development. They remarked that the environment not only raised the quality of work performance, but also increases students’ efficiency and competitive advantage. They also stated that the collaboration between Tunghai University and Champ Home was a perfect model of academic and industrial collaboration.
Regarding the internship opportunities provided by Champ Home, Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang appreciated the company’s continuous support to the school’s education programs and career development. With professionals supervisions, students are able to take practical tasks and responsibilities into their hands, broadening their international perspectives as well as strengthening their critical thinking abilities. Tunghai’s campus environment and free education spirit, combined with collaboration with Champ Home, is no doubt the goal of industrial collaboration.
