During his opening speech in the dinner party, Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang welcomed the Filipino delegation and said that Tunghai University has recently been crowned as the most beautiful campus and the most popular university on the internet. Wang hoped that a tour in the most beautiful campus would make a perfect ending for their visit to Taiwan. Management of various departments and offices attended the meeting, including Secretary-General Jing Shiang, Dean Hong-Wei Yen of the Office of International Education and Programs, Dean Li-Chih Wang of the Office of Research and Development, Director James Sims of the International College, Dean Wen-Dee Chiang of the College of Agriculture, Dean Jeng Liu of the College of Social Sciences, Director Rachel Huang of International Cooperation Section of OIEP, as well as Professors José Chiu-C. The leader of the visiting group, Dr. Alex B. Brillantes appreciated warmly the host of Tunghai. Invited by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, the Filipino university alliance visited Taiwan for their very first time, naming this the ice-breaker of the history of educational exchanges between the two countries. The group was impressed by the adequacy of Taiwan’s educational environment, quality of research, and positivity towards talents cultivation. The Tunghai campus especially amazed them by how humanities and nature could blend in with each other in such harmony.
Tunghai’s representatives had great conversations and discussions with the Filipino university presidents. A number of university representatives expressed their keen desires to collaborate on research and student exchange programs. We expected that a new page in higher education collaboration between Tunghai and the Philippines was about to be written.
The Philippines Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is responsible for the Philippine’s higher education policies and execution, raising the administrative leadership of Filipino university presidents and connecting with the global village. The CHED has collaborated with the Ministry of Education of Taiwan to organize this visiting program. The New Southbond Policy is one of the core goals of the new government, hoping to establish strategic relationships based on “people" with Southeast Asian countries, New Zealand, and Australia. It is hoped that the connection with these areas would be able to incubate world-class young talents.
