The Government of Japan recently announced the recipients of its Autumn Decorations for Foreign Nationals, among whom Mr. Shih-Chin Lee, distinguished alumnus of Tunghai University and former Chairman of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA), was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. The honor recognizes his outstanding contributions in advancing Taiwan–Japan economic relations.

According to the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association, Mr. Lee is a model of corporate leadership whose efforts have significantly strengthened bilateral economic ties. During his tenure as TEEMA Chairman from 2019 to June 2025, he worked tirelessly to deepen Taiwan–Japan industrial cooperation.
Even amid the pandemic, he promoted online international exhibitions and business meetings to ensure uninterrupted exchange between Taiwanese and Japanese enterprises. Following the reopening of borders, he led multiple industrial delegations to Japan, further expanding collaboration with Japanese corporations and organizations. His work has had a substantial and lasting impact on Taiwan–Japan industrial relations.
The Association emphasized that Mr. Lee’s long-term dedication to fostering friendly Taiwan–Japan relations represents an exceptional contribution. His receiving the Decoration is a recognition of his sustained commitment to bilateral industry engagement and international cooperation.
President Kuo-En Chang of Tunghai University praised Mr. Lee as one of the alumni he admires most. “He is humble, deeply connected to his alma mater, and consistently acts out of genuine commitment. His contributions have always been quiet yet profound,” President Chang said.
Over the years, Mr. Lee has donated more than NT$50 million to enhance Tunghai’s information infrastructure. Most recently, he donated an NVIDIA B200 server valued at NT$30 million, elevating Tunghai University to one of the fastest AI-computing universities in Taiwan.

Tunghai University President Chang Kuo-En stated that alumnus Lee Shih-Chin is not only humble and caring toward his alma mater, but has also consistently transformed his love for the university into concrete actions through long-term, quiet contributions.
President Chang further emphasized that Mr. Lee has spent many years strengthening Taiwan–Japan industrial cooperation and has made tangible contributions to bilateral economic development. His receipt of the Order of the Rising Sun fully reflects his professional achievements and brings great honor to Tunghai University.
In addition to Mr. Lee, former Representative to Japan Frank Hsieh received the Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Cordon, and Kun-Hu Huang, President of the Taiwan–Japan Relations Association, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays. All three awardees have played significant roles in deepening Taiwan–Japan relations across diplomacy, economic affairs, culture, and civil exchanges.
President Chang concluded, “Mr. Lee’s outstanding presence on the international stage is a source of pride for all our faculty, students, and alumni. In him, we see the spirit of Tunghai’s liberal arts tradition and labor education. He is truly a model of what it means to be a Tunghai graduate.”
