Tunghai University’s newly constructed “Tunghai Little Prince Rose Garden” will officially open on November 1. The Little Prince sculpture has already been installed in the garden, symbolizing the heartfelt blessing of donor and founder of Classical Rose Garden, Huang Teng-Hui, who hopes to “fill the world with love.” The Little Prince Rose Garden is located beside Tunghai Lake and is composed of 20,000 roses forming two giant rose shapes. It will become a new cultural and scenic landmark of romantic significance following Tunghai’s 70th anniversary.

Tunghai University’s newly created “Little Prince Rose Garden” will officially open on November 1, symbolizing donor Huang Teng-Hui, founder of the Classical Rose Garden, and his wish to “fill the world with love.”
Tunghai University President Chang Kuo-En stated that the Little Prince Rose Garden was fully donated by outstanding alumnus and artist Huang Teng-Hui. Over the past year, he personally participated in all processes—from land reconstruction to rose planting—allowing classic literature and artistic aesthetics to take root in the soil of his alma mater and uniting alumni across generations through concrete actions of affection for the university.
It is worth mentioning that the soon-to-open rose garden features two Little Prince sculptures personally created by Huang Teng-Hui, each carrying symbolic meanings of love and protection. The first sculpture, The Little Prince, is an independent standing figure modeled after Saint-Exupéry’s depiction of the Little Prince, sculpted at a height of 1.68 meters. He gazes quietly over the entire garden, symbolizing that every visitor may find the rose they cherish in their heart. The second sculpture, The Little Prince Embracing the Fox, recreates the classic scene symbolizing the bond of taming and trust, reminding people that only with the eyes of the heart and love can one see what is truly important.

Notably, the original drawings, design, and modeling of the sculptures were all created by Huang Teng-Hui, then cast by a professional company. The two Little Prince sculptures respectively represent love and protection.
Huang Teng-Hui said, “There is only one week left before the garden opens, and honestly, I have been very anxious. From last September until now—an entire year—creating a rose garden on Tunghai’s red soil was ten times harder than I imagined. But dreams always come with many challenges, and the rose garden is finally about to open.”
He shared emotionally, “The design of this garden consists of two roses. One is a birthday gift for my alma mater Tunghai University on its 70th anniversary. The other is dedicated to the Little Prince, who has accompanied me throughout my life in the pursuit of love and faith. I pray that the wind and sunlight become blessings, allowing these tens of thousands of roses to bloom forever in Tunghai and in the city of Taichung.”
President Chang Kuo-En stated that the rose garden symbolizes Tunghai’s commitment to liberal arts education, allowing the school motto—Truth, Faith, and Deeds—together with aesthetics to bloom visibly on campus, providing strength for the future of education. Director-General of General Affairs Hsu Ho-Chieh noted that the garden’s construction was full of challenges, and that professional maintenance will be implemented to make the garden an important space integrating sustainability, ecology, and aesthetic education.

Director of the Office of Public Affairs and Alumni Services Huang Chao-Hsi stated that when fundraising began, alumnus Huang Teng-Hui’s immediate response—“I will do it”—deeply demonstrated the sincerity of the Tunghai community. Now, as the Little Prince faces the wind and sunlight, he also symbolizes that this love and belief will accompany future generations of the campus.
The rose garden will hold its opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on November 1, in conjunction with Tunghai University’s 70th anniversary celebration and the Milk Festival. This is not only a rose garden but also a parallel secret universe belonging to the Little Prince. It is hoped that the “Tunghai Little Prince Rose Garden” will become an emotional landmark shared by students, alumni, and the people of Taichung.
