As Tunghai University marks its 70th anniversary, the Christian institution unveils its “Seven Major Educational Gifts” to chart a new vision for the future. From breaking into the Top 100 in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, achieving full enrollment in both the 2025 Stars and Special Admission programs, and setting new records in EMBA recruitment, to ranking seventh nationwide in the latest Cheers Magazine University President Performance Survey. Tunghai continues to demonstrate educational excellence that integrates AI, sustainability, and the humanities, steadily advancing toward becoming a world-class benchmark university.

As Tunghai University, a Christian institution, celebrates its 70th anniversary, it unveils the “Seven Major Educational Gifts” to chart its vision for the future, inviting alumni to join hands in presenting this meaningful tribute.
The number seven, symbolizing fulfillment and renewal in the Bible, marks a pivotal milestone for Tunghai’s 70th anniversary. President Kuo-En Chang stated that in response to contemporary challenges, Tunghai has launched its “Seven Major Educational Gifts”, which include: inviting world-renowned scholars as guest lectures; creating models for cross-disciplinary innovation; constructing a new AI and Technology Building; co-developing courses with leading global universities and enterprises; strengthening alumni and community partnerships; expanding the university endowment; and revitalizing assets while promoting departmental innovation. He called on alumni to join hands with the university to celebrate this proud Christian institution—embracing 70 years of excellence and envisioning the next century together.
In recent years, Tunghai has continued to challenge itself. President Chang remarked, “At Tunghai, we not only teach technology, but also empower our faculty and students to use technology to change the world.” As a result of these efforts, Tunghai’s Physical Sciences ranked fourth in Taiwan in the 2024 THE World University Rankings by Subject, alongside National Cheng Kung University and National Sun Yat-sen University—showcasing outstanding achievements in the integration of science, engineering, and AI.
Tunghai has achieved remarkable results in AI transformation, interdisciplinary education, and sustainable governance. President Kuo-En Chang remarked, “At Tunghai, we not only teach technology—we empower our faculty and students to use technology to change the world.”
In sustainability, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, Tunghai performed exceptionally across multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators—ranking among the global Top 100 and standing as the only private university in Taiwan on the list. This reflects international recognition of Tunghai’s excellence in sustainable governance and social engagement.
Continuing to surpass itself, Tunghai rose from 37th place in 2018 to 7th in the 2025 Cheers Magazine University President Performance Survey—entering the top ten for the first time in 2024 and remaining the only private comprehensive university among the top ten institutions. “Over the past three years, Tunghai has emerged as a true dark horse,” noted Cheers General Manager Feng-Chen Liu. “Whether in AI transformation, interdisciplinary curriculum design, or sustainable governance, its achievements are truly outstanding.”
Driven by dual focuses on AI and sustainability, Tunghai has launched Taiwan’s first Smart Carbon-Neutral Campus, establishing Asia’s largest net-zero demonstration site. The university collaborates with FarEasTone, TSMC, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, HPE, YungShin Pharm, and Taichung Veterans General Hospital to jointly promote AI Smart Campus initiatives, AI notebook classrooms, a Semiconductor Academy, and ESG education. Faculty members across departments have actively participated in AI curriculum innovation and teaching reform, with results steadily emerging.
In 2025, Tunghai achieved record-high enrollments, with both the Stars and Special Admission programs reaching full capacity for the first time in years—a remarkable accomplishment amid Taiwan’s declining birthrate. Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Ting-Ya Yang also noted that the university’s master’s and doctoral programs achieved their best admission performance to date.
In executive education, Tunghai’s EMBA program also excelled. In 2024, applications exceeded 300, with only 150 students admitted—a record-low acceptance rate that solidified Tunghai’s position as the most competitive EMBA brand in central Taiwan. Dean of the College of Management Dr. Kai-Li Wang explained, “In the post-pandemic era, there has been a wave of mid-career professionals returning to campus. Tunghai’s EMBA serves as a platform for corporate leaders, successors, and entrepreneurs to recharge and grow.”
To meet the regional demand for real estate professionals, Tunghai—under President Chang’s leadership—partnered with Cheng-Hsiung Lin, Chairman of the Real Estate Development Association, to establish a new Real Estate Management track within the EMBA program, marking a new milestone.

In 2025, Tunghai achieved record-high enrollments in both the Stars and Special Admission programs, reaching full capacity for the first time. The College of Management’s EMBA program also achieved outstanding results, sparking a new wave of mid-career professionals returning to campus.
“Life begins at seventy,” said President Chang. “Likewise, Tunghai will continue to renew itself and stride toward its centennial vision.” From sustainability to AI, from undergraduate to EMBA, and from international recognition to local impact, Tunghai is redefining excellence. Yet what the university takes greatest pride in are its alumni, who continue to advance in diverse fields and run alongside their alma mater.
Rooted in Christian values, Tunghai has nurtured numerous distinguished alumni, including Academia Sinica Vice President Tang Tang and 13 other academicians; Wu Szu-Yung, President of Baruch College, City University of New York; former Citi Vice Chairman Chia Pei-Yuan; renowned economist Lang Hsien-Ping; former Chair of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia and current Tunghai Board Chairman Wu Ching-Mai; Classical Rose Garden founder Huang Teng-Hui; Inventec founder Cheng Ching-Ho; Minister of Transportation Chen Shih-Kai; Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-Chien; CPBL President Tsai Chi-Chang; and Fubon Group Chairman Daniel Tsai—among many others who bring honor to Tunghai.
President Chang extended special thanks to alumni such as Tsai Chi-Chang, Honorary President of the Alumni Association and former Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, and Cheng Ching-Ho, a key leader in AI transformation, for their steadfast support.“It is these alumni who are taking real action,” he said, “helping Tunghai reshape its future and stride confidently into the next shining seventy years.”
