Biotechnology Industry Enters Tunghai Campus to Assist Student Entrepreneurs

On March 22, 2016, in front of the Luce Chapel, Tunghai University and BioHopeKing Co. held an announcement campaign of “Talent Cultivation Program for Biotechnological Innovation and Entrepreneurship” sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the celebration for the cooperation between BioHopeKing Co. and the Tunghai Incubation Center. THU president Dr. Mao-Jiun Wang and the CEO of BioHopeKing Co. Ms. Mary Huang signed a collaboration contract on the event. The THU Agricultural and Biotechnological Education and Internship Center also signed an agreement on the development of anti-body-fat products with the General Manager of Universal Health Biomedical Corp. Mr. Jin-Jieh Wang. The Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Ping-Kun Tsai, and other honorable guests joined the event.
BioHopeKing CEO Huang said that by joining the Tunghai Incubation Center, the company hopes to cultivate local young talents on campus and help to develop small and medium size biotechnological enterprises in central Taiwan. They especially aimed to assist THUTRACK startup team to mass-produce the latest cancer cell migration chip, accelerating their entry into the global cancer research market.
The patent holder of the cancer cell migration chip, associate professor of THU Life Science Department, Dr. Wei-Ting Chao stated that the chip is a new tool to test the ability of cancer cell migration. It characterizes easy operation and real-time quantization with accurate data. With features in test efficiency and cost effectiveness, the product is likely to make great contribution to cancer research.
The TRACK team members include five students from THU departments of Life Science, Chemical and Materials Engineering, and Business Administration. With the guidance of BioHopeKing, they are achieving their dream of starting a business.
According to president Dr. Mao-Jiun Wang, THU is the only university in Taiwan that simultaneously implements the Talent Cultivation Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education in both agricultural and medical biomedical fields. Since 2014, both program centers have received various awards, showing THU strengths and advantages in interdisciplinary talents cultivation. President Wang encouraged Tunghai faculty to continue advancing on cultivating innovative biotechnology talents, promoting medical research and industrialization, and guiding biotechnology development in central Taiwan, making it mutually beneficial to the university and the industry.
