Congratulations to Department of Hospitality Management for Winning Gold and Silver Medals in Belgium Tourism and Gastronomy Festival

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Belgium Tourism and Gastronomy Festival International Competition (BTGFIC) was held online in July and attracted competitors from Belgium, Netherlands, Palestine, Turkey, Israel, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Peru, India, Arab, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

The competition items include individual dishes display, appetizers display, restaurant dishes display, bakery display, tourist souvenir design display, bar-tending, and coffee latte art. Culinary skill instructor of Tunghai’s Department of Hospitality Management, Mr. Johnny Y.C. Lin, joined competitions in individual dishes display and appetizers display and won two gold medals. Under the guidance of Mr. Lin, freshman students Yu-Chi Lin won a gold medal in appetizers display and Cho-Wen Wu won a silver medal in individual dishes display. The outstanding performance of our students makes a solid foundation for their confidence in furthering the study of culinary skills.

Numerous practices were required for joining the competition, the instructor and the students presented excellent techniques and designs. Adding to the perfect exhibition of a culinary design, students also learned to produce and to edit a presentation video – making the competition a great combination of professional practice and application.
