Tunghai University-News--AI Tunghai and Changhua Christian Hospital Cooperate to Advance Medical Care

With the shared spirit of Christian universal love, Tunghai University and Changhua Christian Hospital are dedicated to the expertise in the education and medical industries. The cooperation strengthens the tie between institutions with the Project for Talent Advancements in AI Applications supported by the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Vice president Li-Chi Wang said that artificial intelligence is the future trend. Tunghai University has in-depth research and development capabilities and solid results in smart healthcare, smart manufacturing, smart ecology, and smart buildings. The cooperation with Changhua Christian Hospital will start with building up the AI application ability of the hospital staff, and to go on further improving community disease prevention and health promotion. Vice President Wang hopes that the cooperation will set up a new model for the promotion of smart medical application in Taiwan.
In the AI era, the medical service models are undergoing a disruptive transformation. Superintendent Mu-Kuan Chen of Changhua Christian Hospital said that the Hospital values technology innovation and encourages the younger generation of doctors to promote smart medical care. The goal is to make doctors the developers who will integrate AI technologies into the front-line medical services and extend them throughout the service process of the hospital.

Dr. Ching-Hsiung Lin, Vice Superintendent and Director of Artificial Intelligence Development Center of Changhua Christian Hospital, said that the next wave of AI-driven digital transformation will bring about the improvement of the efficiency of the hospital's overall process. There will be medical process reengineering involving changes in the operation process, service process and human-machine collaborations. In this cooperation with the Tunghai AI Technology Center, Changhua Christian Hospital not only focuses on training of the medical staff, but also stresses on the improvement of the AI literacy of healthcare staff and administrative staff, so that a full AI digital transformation of medical service will be accelerated.

Even under the intense pandemic alert, the Program for Talent Advancements in AI Applications received 60 trainees from all departments of the Changhua Christian Hospital. There will be a 2-month training for the hospital staff to become prepared for applying state-of-the-art AI technologies in their work environment to advance the quality of medical services and to create innovative medical services and values.
