Department of Life Science of Tunghai University, Mycological Society of Republic of China and Mycological Society of China co-organized “The 12th Cross-Strait Mycology Symposium” in Tunghai on November 7th. President of the Mycological Society of China, Prof. Cheng Shu Wang, led 33 scholars from universities and research institutions in China to attend the seminar.
A total of 34 speeches were delivered and over 80 papers were presented by scholars and professionals from China and Taiwan. The main topic this year was to share the state-of-the-art research results and the trend of development on “Fungus System and its Diversity,” “Physiological adjustment mechanism” and “Fungus Environmental adaptation and Control.” It is considered one of the most important exchange activities for the Mycologist communities among the academia and industries in China and Taiwan. More than 140 participants joined the symposium.
Aside from the symposium program, Professor of Life Science and president of Mycological Society of Republic of China, Dr. Pi-Han Wang, also organized a forum in discussion of cross-strait cooperation between the two Mycology societies. Subjects touched in the forum included information exchange, collaborative research, and idea-sharing for industrial development. Topics related to substantial cooperation such as technology development and talent incubation were vigorously discussed.
Industrial representatives had a discussion about the current status and the future of cross-strait fungus related industries. It was proposed that active cooperation model could be planned in the areas of fungi listing & identification, industrial information exchange, industry-academia collaboration and industrial-cultural guidance activities.
A roundtable also solidified the relationship between the two societies in terms of knowledge sharing in academia, education, industry, edible and medicinal mushroom and fungi related clinical medical products.
