“Christmas is Just for You” Event on Christmas Eve

In this loving and thankful season, the 2018 Christmas event “Christmas is just for you” gives us the meaning of God’s creation of mankind. With this, Christmas tells us that our lives have the highest value, and people’s behavior and decisions are meaningful. A series of events started after the Lighting Ceremony on December 11th, and reached its climax on Christmas Eve.
It is a tradition in Tunghai University to sing Christmas carols in front of the President’s residence. This year we not only had the Christian Student Fellowship sing songs and read the bible, but was also joined by the students of Social Work PhD programs from Hunan, Hubei, Shandong, Guangdong, Fujian province in China. One of the students from Sichuan performed the Yi people chant to welcome everyone, it definitely added to the warm atmosphere of the season.
The Library hosted the Christmas Film Festival to bring to the audience Christmas-themed movies. The Department of Industrial Design also hosted the Industrial Design Week on the week of December 17th. The exhibition covered two areas, industrial design hall decoration and interactive display. Since the theme of this year was “Be in a Funk”, they featured the laboratory with hopeless color tones and simple lines, and presented various design thinking and processes.
The installation art every year is the spice of Christmas in Tunghai University. The artworks created by the faculty and students of the Department of Fine Arts were lit on campus in December. The College of Fine Arts and Creative Design organized the Tunghai Art Walk map as attached. It featured the sculptures created by 10 artists from the International Sculpture Symposium. These installation artworks aimed to make the spectator experience the spirit of Tunghai University.
The students of the Department of Fine Arts created 10 artworks displayed in the Second Teaching Area around the Art Center and the Management College Building. The nature and architecture on campus were the inspiration for the students. They paid attention to the philosophy of aesthetics, connection between the environment and artwork itself, and the relationship between texture and modeling. The students took advantage of various lights to enhance the artworks at night, so that the pieces were rich in color and depth.
The university invited the master of ancient bronze casting of China, Dean Dongping Zheng, to be the artist in residency in Tunghai University. He will host three forums “Understand the Ancient Bronze Casting Process- Ancient Art in Modern Times”in EMBA Hall on 10 a.m., December 24th, 2018, 10 a.m., January 26th, 2019, and 2 p.m., January 26, 2019.
On Christmas Eve on campus, besides the 99 plus 1 ringing of the Priest Bell Tower, there were a variety of parties hosted by clubs like Rock Music club and Phonshins Guitar club, Yuenong Market hosted by Student Association, Messiah Outdoor Concert, Wenyin Liang Christmas Concert and Luce Chorus Performance. All kinds of wonderful activities celebrated the coming of Christmas.

To accommodate the Christmas Eve Events and keep the campus safe, bus route 354 would be adjusted as below. On December 24, 2018 (Mon), route 354 would not enter campus after 20:00. The destination would be changed to Taichung Veterans General Hospital (Taiwan Blvd.).
