Tunghai University-News-- Congrats to Tunghai alumni Chun-Fang Yu, Wei-Ming Tu, Chia-Ling Chien, and Teh-Chung Ho elected Academicians of Academia Sinica
Academia Sinica announced the 2018 list of Academicians on July 5, 2018. Among the 21 newly elected academicians, four are alumni from Tunghai University. Two were elected as academicians of Humanities and Social Sciences--Chun-Fang Yu, one of the first graduates from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, and Wei-Ming Tu, graduate from the Department of Chinese Literature. Chia-Ling Chien, graduate from the Department of Applied Physics, was elected as academician of Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Teh-Chung Ho, graduate from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, was elected as academician of Engineering Sciences. Being an academician of Academia Sinica is one of the highest honors in the academe. All THU faculty, staff, students, and alumni felt honored upon hearing the good news. With the most academicians (11) among its alumni, THU ranks the top among all private universities in Taiwan.
Tunghai University has cultivated and educated students for 60 years. Alumni who are academicians of Academia Sinica include Nan Lin (graduate from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature), Robert K. Yu (graduate from the Department of Chemistry), Kang-I Sun Chang (graduate from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature), Tung-Chi Cheng (graduate from the Department of Chemistry), Chun-Fang Wu (graduate from the Department of Life Science), Chung-I Wu (graduate from the Department of Life Science), Hung-Wen Liu (graduate from the Department of Chemistry). THU alumni have also received the honor of being elected as academicians overseas. Kris Yao (graduate from the Department of Architecture) was awarded Honorary Fellowship of AIA. Wei-Ming Tu (graduate from the Department of Chinese Literature) was elected as academician of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. S. T. Tsai was late academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Kang-I Sun Chang, one of the new 2018 academicians of Academia Sinica, was elected as academician of American Academy of Arts and Sciences two years ago.
