Malaysian Congressman and East Asian special ambassador King-Sing Tiong visited Tunghai University on October 2, 2017. The visiting group members included Director Iskandar, Senior Confidential Secretary Seang-Hock Lee, Confidential Secretary Chi-Tong Qiu, and special assistant Ling-Xian Yang of the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Center, Taipei. Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang, Dean Hong-Wei Yen of the Office of International Education and Programs (OIEP), Professor Ying-Chyi Chou of the Department of Business Administration, Director Chih-Yun Wu of the International Student Affairs Section of OIEP, and eight Malaysian students represented Tunghai University to welcome the visiting guests.
In his welcoming speech, President Mao-Jiun Wang pointed out that Malaysian students were the third largest group of foreign students studying in Tunghai University while students from China and Hong Kong took up the majority. The academic performances of Malaysian students is outstanding. They also participated actively in extra-curricular activities, as well as various sports competitions. As part of the Tunghai’s family, they were definitely adored and befriended by teachers and students alike in all departments.

According to Ambassador King-Sing Tiong, Tunghai University has always been one of the main choices for Malaysian students. Currently, the Malaysian students studying in Tunghai were mostly from Selangor, Penang, and Johor. He hoped Tunghai could provide more opportunities and scholarships for those coming from Sabah, Sarawak, and related areas. In addition, Ambassador Tiong acknowledged highly the educational characteristics and quality of Tunghai’s College of Agriculture. While continuing to assist the promotion of Taiwan’s higher education, he would also facilitate exchange and collaboration between Tunghai University and Sarawak government in the fields of agricultural and biological science.

Studying in the Innovation Group of the Department of Business Administration, Jamis Woon (originally from Pei Hwa High School in Malaysia) is currently the leader of the Malaysian Student Association in Tunghai University. He learned about the admission information to Tunghai’s Department of Business Administration in an education fair. Knowing that Tunghai practiced a more innovative education approach than other universities, he was attracted by the unique curriculum design of the Department of Business Administration. Two other students from the Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology and the Department of Hospitality Management also shared their experiences in applying for and studying at Tunghai University.

They contributed greatly in welcoming the visiting guests and giving presentations about their experiences at Tunghai.
