Tunghai University is the manager of the Taiwan Education Center(TEC) in Jakarta, and in February 2018 organized the Higher Educational Fair at UGM with twenty other Taiwanese university participants. During the Fair, Professor Chien Shih-Sen from the Department of Physics recruited two MA students from the Physics Department at UGM who are now studying for their PhD at Tunghai University.

The Universitas Gadjah Mada, founded in 1949, is the first public research university established after the foundation of Indonesia. With the title of the oldest higher educational system, UGM has a great reputation in Indonesia. According to the QS Ranking system, it is ranked 105 among Asian universities. So far, there are 18 faculties, 27 research centers and around 55,000 students at Universitas Gadjah Mada. President Wang Mao-Jiun welcomed the delegation and introduced Tunghai University to the guests. This was followed by a signing ceremony during which the College of Engineering and the College of Science signed collaboration agreements with their respective partners at UGM.

UGM visited five universities during their stay in Taiwan and Tunghai is the only private university among the five. In addition to the discussion with College of Engineering and Science, the delegation of UGM also signed an agreement with the Taichung Veterans General Hospital, with Tunghai acting as the liaison between the two institutions. With the international resources from Tunghai, the medical research cooperation between the two systems is expected to proceed in the years to come.
