Tunghai University granted Mr. Daniel Tsai, Chairman of the Fubon Group an honorary doctorate. Mr. Tsai is the leader of the largest corporate group in Taiwan and has gained recognition as a prominent "Asian corporate leader." Tunghai University President Kuo-En Chang said that Tunghai has nurtured numerous outstanding alumni over its 68-year history, including 14 Academicians of the Academia Sinica, the Vice President of Citigroup, and the President of Legislative Yuan. Chairman Daniel Tsai studied at the Department of Business Administration in Tunghai University before transferring to National Taiwan University. Tunghai University takes pride in having an alumnus of such remarkable achievements.

Daniel Tsai currently serves as the Chairman of the Fubon Group, Chairman of Taiwan Mobile, Chairman of momo.com, Chairman of Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), and a board member of Fubon Financial Holding. Since joining the Fubon Group in 1981, Mr. Tsai has not only led the group's growth but also committed to sustainable operations, transforming the Fubon Group into Taiwan's most comprehensive and diversified financial group. The business extends beyond finance to real estate, telecommunications media, cable television, e-commerce, cultural and creative industries, and philanthropy. Being one of the original shareholders of Taiwan High-Speed Rail, Fubon Group also made significant contributions to Taiwan's transportation infrastructure development.
Adhering to his father, President Wan-tsai Tsai’s philosophy of "Taken from the society, giving back to the society," Mr. Daniel Tsai established various charity organizations within the Fubon Group since 1988, including the Fubon Charity Foundation, Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation, Fubon Art Foundation, and Taipei Fubon Bank Charity Foundation. These foundations address the needs of children, youth, adults, the elderly, and economically disadvantaged groups, as well as individuals with physical and mental disabilities, fostering a holistic approach to social welfare.
According to Tunghai University President Kuo-En Chang, Mr. Tsai studied in the Department of Business Administration at Tunghai University in 1974. He has repeatedly expressed that although he only studied for one year at Tunghai at the age of 18, the knowledge of economics and accounting acquired during that year has helped him with understanding financial reports and managing businesses. He also enjoyed the dormitory life of the freshman year and missed the experience throughout his life.
Mr. Daniel Tsai has long upheld his father, President Wan-tsai Tsai’s philosophy of "Taken from the society, giving back to the society" and cared for social welfare.
President Kuo-En Chang highly admires Mr. Tsai's achievements in the financial and telecommunications sectors, particularly noting his role as Chairman of Taiwan Mobile. Mr. Tsai has empowered the group's technological development under the super 5G policy, leading it to become Taiwan's first new-generation technology and telecommunications company. Mr. Daniel Tsai has received various recognitions, including being named "Best CEO" by Institutional Investor magazine, receiving the Outstanding Contribution Award in the Greater China Region from Euromoney magazine, and receiving the " Asian Corporate Leader Achievement Awards " from Corporate Governance Asia magazine for 7 consecutive years. He has also been honored with the Asia's Best Investor Relations CEO Award, one of the 50 Best-Performing CEOs in Taiwan in 2016, the” Outstanding Leadership Award" and the "Corporate Sustainability Outstanding Individual Award" at the Global Views Leaders Forum held by Global Views magazine. The companies under Mr. Tsai's leadership have also received international recognition, with Fubon Financial Holding and Taiwan Mobile both included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World Index and Listed A in climate change and supplier engagement rating by CDP.
Mr. Tsai served as the Chairman of the Asia Business Council from 2021 to 2023, becoming Honorary Chairman in March 2023. In 2013, he participated in the establishment of the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society and has been a board member since 2014. Since April 2012, he has served as a board member of the University of Southern California. Besides dedicating himself to sustainable business operations, Mr. Tsai actively engages in international affairs, contributes to societal well-being, and has made significant contributions to education
Daniel Tsai was appointed as a member of the Tunghai Sustainable Development Committee in September 2023. He has been providing positive and constructive advices to the development of Tunghai University. With the nomination, Mr. Tsai become the eighth distinguished individual to receive an honorary doctorate from Tunghai University. President Kuo-En Chang will be granting his personal first honorary doctorate to Mr. Daniel Tsai on December 18th, 2023. President Chang considered the ceremony an honor, a blessing and a glory for the university.
