After achieving the top spot among private universities in Taiwan (excluding medical categories) in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Rankings, Tunghai University once again claimed the crown at the 2023 Taiwan Sustainability Model University award. Outshining 45 universities, Tunghai University was honored with the " Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) Sustainability Model University award" and earned the highest platinum award in the "University Sustainability Report" category. It is the sole university to win the award for four consecutive years.

Tunghai University has been dedicated to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for years, excelling domestically in fields such as research, management, influence, and education. It upholds its social responsibility as a university and consistently drives for the integrating of sustainability and education. Tunghai has recently secured a global ranking of 601-800 in the 2024 THE World University Rankings in physical sciences. In 2023, Tunghai also won the first prize for the "University Sustainability Report" with outstanding sustainability vision, execution, and results. Tunghai University President Kuo-En Chang emphasized that receiving the award again confirmed the university’s commitment to social responsibility.

President Chang stressed that Tunghai has long been cultivating sustainability talents, connecting resources to build an open circular university to realize the vision of a future university. The goals are to establish Tunghai as an open learning center, fostering sustainable innovation and achieving a better society. Facing the challenges of higher education in the 21st century, Tunghai is redefining its campus with a focus on "sustainability" and "openness," including precision education, flipped teaching, and progression toward sustainable development through adjustments in talent cultivation goals and the flexibility of campus organization.

Tunghai University Vice President Jo-Shu Chang pointed out that in the journey of sustainable practice, Tunghai has gone through different stages. In 2018, it formulated sustainability visions and strategies as a framework for implementing and promoting the University Social Responsibility (USR). In 2022, Tunghai established a comprehensive sustainable governance framework and mechanism, officially established the Office of Sustainable Development to work with the USR Office and the IR Office to jointly plan and address issues related to Tunghai University's SDGs sustainable development goals. With the integration of interdisciplinary innovation colleges such as Cloud Innovation, Aging, Ecology, and Environment, Tunghai is nurturing sustainability leaders needed by the society while promoting sustainable innovative courses.
