On March 17th, 2022, Tunghai University held a press conference calling for a humanitarian aid project -“Away from War, Study in Taiwan” project - to help Ukrainian students. To our surprise, a generous donation came within 24 hours after the conference. Dr. Chiu-Hsiung Huang, Chairman of Shou-Yuan Foundation, contacted Tunghai and made donation of NTD 160 million to fully support the project.

Dr. Chiu-Hsiung Huang donates NTD 160M to support Ukrainian students study in Taiwan
Dr. Chiu-Hsiung Huang, a former staff in the Accounting Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs who worked as an expat in a Taiwan embassy and witnessed the diplomatic difficulties of Taiwan, has always wanted to contribute to the country. Dr. Huang is a professional accountant, once a member of Tunghai University Board of Supervisors, and has been supporting Tunghai for years. He always argues that private universities are public instrument and Tunghai University is a model in this regard. With his long-term observations on the issues of higher education and publicization of private universities, Dr. Huang will publish a book named “Universities as Public Instrument or Private Business?” in April 2022.
Dr. Huang hopes that his donation will help incubate Ukrainian young people to become global leaders in the future. Tunghai University President Guo-En Chang appreciates Dr. Chiu-Hsiung Huang for his timely donation in the project supporting 10 Ukrainian students to study in Tunghai University for four years. Tunghai will make the best of the benevolence and from there generate greater good for the students.
