A group of 78 students majoring in music from Malaysian Pay Fong Middle School, led by the President Dr. Xue-Lai Huang, visited Tunghai University on December 9, 2015. The group was warmly received.
Chair of Tunghai Department of Music Prof. Thomas Linde welcome the young visitors with an introduction of the teaching and practice resources of the department. Master classes in cello, violin, and piano were then conducted by professors of the Dept. of Music to provide the young students with a unique experience in Tunghai. Students were guided to interpret musical work with imagination and abstract musical expressions. In the afternoon, the visiting students performed in groups of Chinese instruments, string instruments, and wind instruments. The Tunghai Orchestra then played the first chapter of Beethoven Symphony No. 9 as a demonstration for the young visitors to follow suit. The visitors were amazed by the performance of the THU students.
President Huang thanked the professors and students of the Tunghai Department of Music for their warm hospitality, as well as other staff members in the Computer Center and in the Office of International Education and Programs for creating a fruitful day of their visit. Nearly 30 THU students originated from Malaysia worked as volunteers in the reception were happy to meet with their fellow students and had an enjoyable day.
