November 2 is Tunghai University’s 61th anniversary and the annual Homecoming Celebration for all alumni. The celebration had continued through the entire week. Activities included the cheerleading contest, small group worships, Homecoming Celebration Sunday service, alumni gathering, outstanding alumni ceremony and alumni back-to-school lunch banquet, Hong Kong alumni association 30th celebration, and more.
In the sports event, athletes paraded around the field, cheering joyously. Teachers and students alike all demonstrated their creativity on their entrance costumes and outfits, showing proudness and spirits for their departments and offices. The atmosphere was festive and exciting.
Tunghai President Mao-Jiun Wang said that he was very happy to see students being so highly spirited and energetic, which fully demonstrated Tunghai’s liveliness and energy. Tunghai University not only focuses on ethical and professional education, but also cares for students’ balance in physical and spiritual development. With sufficient infrastructural support, students from Tunghai are known as excellent athletes in off-campus competitions. Take last semester as an example, the girls’ table tennis team, girls’ badminton team, girls’ basketball team, and the boys’ football team all performed brilliantly. The president encouraged students to bear sportsmanship, comply with rules, and stay committed during the competition.
The opening ceremony started with the performance by the winners of the cheerleading competition. They creatively designed a plot infusing the Chinese temple culture and the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. Their sophisticated body performance and creative props won them a full round-of-applause. The last performance of the opening ceremony was brought by kids from the Tunghai kindergarten, who danced an extremely cute penguin dance that melted all audiences’ hearts.
Under the supervision of President Wang and the support from alumni, many new constructions have gone under their way. On the Anniversary day, an appreciation ceremony was held to mark the completion of four major constructions on campus. The school especially thanked the alumni of the 2nd class of Tunghai for their generous donation that contributed to these important constructions.
The Homecoming Celebration Party was organized together with a lunch buffet, alumni, teachers, and students from various art and performance clubs joined and brought about a great and joyous event. Happy birthday, Tunghai University!
