The English Language Center at Tunghai invites you to come join one of our fun Table Game Parties! We have a variety of great games--everything from the classic Pictionary to some new ones like Avalon and Dixit. Games are a fun way to use English for a real reason! You’ll be using English and having a blast at the same time! Even if you aren’t sure how to play the games--that’s ok, we’ll teach you. And, we’ll also provide snacks. The English Language Center is proud to announce that it will be continuing English Movie Nights this semester. On two Wednesday nights in October (17 & 24) and two in November (14 & 21), the ELC will host the English Movie Night Activity in LAN004.
The activity was met with enthusiasm last semester as students related they found that viewing movies was a fun way to learn English. Students also found the discussion/activities after the movie useful in that they allowed them the opportunity to express their opinions and hear others’ opinions about issues and themes in the movies. This allowed students to learn more about themselves and the world we live in.
This semester the format will be similar with ELC teachers selecting movies that they think have themes that will resonate with students. Teachers will again lead an interactive activity/discussion after the showing of the movie. Snacks will be provided starting at 6:00pm with the movie starting at 6:30pm. Please come out and participate in this fun and educational activity.
• Activity Name: 2018 Eyes on the World - English Travel Log contest

Traveling abroad is a fun and memorable experience. What makes it even more special is when you learn something about the culture and people of the country you visit. This activity gives you a chance to share with others the interesting things you discovered about the customs of another country. Maybe you just traveled around the country as a tourist, or perhaps you went there on a work-study program. Write a short account of your experience in a Word document, add three photos and save it as a PDF document. Next send it to the English Language Center (elc@thu.edu.tw) before noon on October 26. The winning entrees will receive a prize and be posted in a large poster format for all to see outside LAN106 from November 26 – December 7. • Activity Name: 2018 ELC Teacher Meet & Greet

The English Language Center (ELC) will host a Meet & Greet for all the ELC instructors (i.e., full/part-time & overseas teachers) in order to strengthen professional and personal relationships between ELC instructors. A “Meet & Greet” is a type of informal gathering where participants socialize, share experiences, and meet new people in order to foster meaningful relationships. Stronger relationships between full and part-time instructors will benefit Tunghai University’s students and the ELC by promoting more collaboration and idea/material exchanges with the goal of improving English instruction and English learning for Tunghai’s students. All new and veteran ELC instructors are highly encouraged to attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
