Tunghai University is making a foray into AI healthcare! The Tunghai University Artificial Intelligence Center (AI Center) has joined forces with a medical advisory team from Taichung Veterans General Hospital, with the theme "You have the hospital, and I have AI." They have successfully integrated data from five major hospitals to create the unique AI "Smart Critical Healthecare System." This system not only aids doctors in diagnosis but also reduces the risk of patient mortality. Tunghai University College of Engineering Associate Professor Kai-Chih Pai said that the AI models developed by Tunghai can be extended to collaborate across multiple hospitals. Currently, partners include four medical centers from Taipei Veterans General Hospital, MacKay Memorial Hospital, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, and Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital. There are practical applications in five hospitals, marking a significant breakthrough in inter-hospital medical integration.
Director Winston Lo of Tunghai University AI Center said that the driving force behind the AI Center is its alumnus from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Robert Cheng, who is one of the founders of the electronics manufacturer "Inventec." According to Lo, Cheng as the chairman of the DDS Institute of Advanced Education has implemented an "AI Program" at Tunghai University in the past three years. The program has an annual average investment of over 60 million NT dollars dedicated to the development of AI courses and trainings for students and faculty.

DDS Institute of Advanced Education Chairman Robert Cheng mentioned that AI is sweeping the world, causing significant global changes. He believes that for students in universities, learning AI is essential for staying competitive. The term "learning AI" doesn't mean to become an expert in computer science, but that individuals should be able to incorporate AI into their fields of study and even collaborate across disciplines. He further pointed out that AI technology has blurred the boundaries between the humanities and technology. Students in the humanities and social sciences should open up to AI to embrace new opportunities.
Director Winston Lo stressed that talent cultivation is critical in developing AI technology. Although Tunghai University does not have a medical school, hospitals do collaborate with Tunghai. This signifies that Tunghai University's AI technology has been recognized. He believes that in the future, smart healthcare will break domain limitations and further elevate the quality of healthcare in Taiwan.
