The 2023 Venice Biennale of Architecture – Taiwan Pavilion announced the selected exhibitors. A work named “Diachronic apparatuses of Taiwan — Architecture as on-going within landscape ”designed by Tunghai University Department of Architecture Chair Wei Tseng and his team was selected and will be exhibited in Palazzo delle Prigioni, Italy on May 20 to November 26, 2023.
The 2023 Venice Biennale of Architecture – Taiwan Pavilion, organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, chose ‘The Laboratory of the Future’ as its subject to call for exhibitors. Five teams submitted their proposals for the selection. Tunghai University was selected and will represent the Taiwan Pavillion in the biennial exhibition. The Tunghai team is led by curator Wei Tseng, co-curators Sheng-Chieh Ko, Jeong-Der Ho and Meng-Tsung Su. The proposal of “Diachronic apparatuses of Taiwan — Architecture as on-going within landscape ” considers that the future lies in not entirely forward-looking; people may need to embark on a circuitous path and re-assemble the life and surroundings that might have been forgotten.

The Tunghai team brings us back to the mountains and waters of Taiwan to look for the genuine daily life that nurtures the future. The work focuses on the agricultural landscape and discovers the remodeled characters from a cross-section point of view. The team also argues that ‘exhibition means action’ and that university campus is a laboratory from a design perspective. The major park of the work was completed by the Tunghai team while departments of architecture of other universities, including National Cheng Kung University, Tamkang University and Feng Chia University, were invited to join the project to expand the laboratorial and action momentum.
The judge committee commented the Tunghai “Diachronic apparatuses of Taiwan — Architecture as on-going within landscape ” as highly motivated with in-depth investigation of Taiwan landscape and culture and integrative of Taiwan resilience and adaptation with future architecture concepts.
