Tunghai University Department of Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information invited Professor Frank F. Chen, the first Taiwan scholar who has received the US Presidential Faculty Fellows Award and an outstanding alumnus of Tunghai University, to deliver a speech sharing his perspectives in studying abroad and strengthening international competitiveness. Scholars from George Mason University and Northeastern University were also invited to hold forums to share their experiences and observations.
Currently a Lutcher Brown University Distinguished Chair Professor of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Prof. Frank F. Chen gave a speech on “the importance of studying abroad and the correlation between English proficiency and national competitiveness.” He encouraged the students to take all possible opportunities to apply for international scholarships and to study abroad to expand personal horizon.

Besides expanding horizons, advancements in professional knowledge are as important. Assoc. Prof. Chien-Chung Huang from George Mason University Systems Engineering and Operations Research shared his experience in the research in the field of industrial engineering and the study in the United States. According to Prof. Huang, an IE graduate bears knowledge applicable in various industries and could play a key role in the digital world. Asst. Professor Jun-An Chou of Northeastern University Dept. of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering shared his views in data sharing, optimization, and research cases with the topic “Healthcare Operations Research and Analytics”. Tunghai University Department of Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information Chair Shao-Jen Weng organized this open house forum to make the precious experience sharing of all speakers available to all college faculties and students around the nation. He also invited people from the industry to participate in the forum, making it a knowledge feast during the summer vacation time.
Tunghai University Department of Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information has been active in promoting international exchanges. In recent years, many students have gone through summer study camps in Rhode Island University and Georgia Institute of Technology in the USA. There are also dual degree programs with the Asia Institute of Technology (AIT) and student exchange programs with Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) in Thailand. Through participating in these programs, students better connect themselves with the global academic world and explore more career opportunities.
