Tunghai University Celebrates 65th Founding Anniversary

Tunghai University launched a series of celebration activities on November 1, 2020 to celebrate its 65th founding anniversary. Activities include the openings of the "Creative Zone" in the Library of the Management College, a new baseball and softball field, and a covered sports court. The Department of Economics organized a "New Trends in Young Generation Investment and Taiwan Stocks Prospects Forum" together with Yuanta Financial Corp., while the library organized a “Special Collection Exhibition of Tunghai University" and the Art Center exhibited the art collection of Pei-Rong Hall. There was also an anniversary Sunday worship with celebration ceremony and Outstanding Alumni Awards. An extended alumni luncheon was held.

The 65th Anniversary Celebration and Outstanding Alumni Awards Ceromony was held at the Luce Chapel. Ten alumni who achieved outstanding performance in their respective fields were awarded. Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, Chi-Chang Tsai, a Tunghai alumni, delivered a speech as a distinguished guest.

The outstanding alumni awardees are: Dr. Hsiang-wen Chen, honorary Chair of TEFA USA; Professor Ren-Jie Peng of Illinois State University Champion Campus; General Manager Gao-Wei Hsu of Hsinho Chemical Corp.; Chairman Cheng-Yu Huang of Long Song Knitting Corp.; Honorary Professor Wen-Bing Deng of Taipei Medical University; Vice Chair Chi-Ming Chang of Arden Tech Corp.; Chairman Da-Bin Tung of Tomax Enterprise Corp.; Professor Shu-Chang Kong of National Chiao-Tung University; Chairperson Jian-Chen Chang of Chan & Chang Group; General Manager Yu-Huang Chan of Jotoleading Corp.
The outstanding alumni awardees group photo
President Mao-Juin Wang congratulated the outstanding alumni and reported the recent achievements of the University, including an improved ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking, receiving a Model Award in General Education, and being granted a University Sustainability Award. Last year, Tunghai won three major Awards from the Ministry of Education for maintaining a Friendly Campus, for providing superior career consultations, and for delivering an outstanding physical education program. Soft power such as general education+ and AI+ is especially focused in recent years.
Legislative Yuan Vice President Tsai thanked Tunghai University for shaping him to become who he is today through the eight years of study from undergraduate to graduate school at Tunghai. Mr. Tsai attributed his ability to serve the society to the training and incubation in Tunghai University. He also hoped that the university keep educating the younger generation and that the alumni contribute to the society wherever they may be.

Special commendations were made to individual alumni
During the anniversary ceremony, special commendations were made to individual alumni who had made donations of over 3 million NTD to Tunghai University. The donations were given: to build new multi-function building; to promote cross-domain AI applications, to setup Shih-Lin Memorial Foundation in the Physics Department; and to provide scholarship for overseas internship in the Accounting Department; The alumni donors were: Long-Guei Lee (Foreign Language and Literature Dept.); Ching-Ho Cheng (Chemical Engineering Dept.); Shih-Chin Lee (Economics Dept.); Physics Dept;Gao-Wei Hsu (Chemical Engineering Dept.); Da-Bin Tung (Business Adminstration Dept.); Su-Tsong Chou (Accounting Dept.); Pin-Chen Liu (EMBA); Chun-Ying Cho (Chair of Alumni Association).
